| TOMORROW IN MANCHESTER! LOVELY INDIE/POP/PUNK GIG! |
[15 Jun 2009|09:45am] |
TOMORROW! TUESDAY 16TH JUNE 2009!

The Real Collective presents;
LEMURIA (east coast, usa) The return of the lovely power-pop trio return to Manchester, almost two years after they first stole everyone's hearts and made everyone fall in love with their cute, downright adorable blend of punk and slick indie power pop. Now releasing records on Asian Man (including their most recent LP, 'Get Better'). Just, seriously the sweetest loveliest people making the most perfect music. Excited? You fucking bet. No venue changes, this is at Retro Bar. You got it. http://www.myspace.com/lemuria
SURRENDER (west coast, usa) Awesome catchy and message-carrying pop/punk from San Francisco. Taking cues from old peace punk like Crass and Chumbawamba and modernising it into an even more accessible and meaningful manner. If we're giving more contemporary clues, imagine if Fifth Hour Hero were making records towards the more- political-than-twee side of Plan-It-X. Ex-Crimpshrine and current- Onion Flavoured Rings, on Thrillhouse Records. http://www.lastwhiteflag.org
BEAR BONES (hull) New band from t'other side of the Pennines, playing great melodic punk rock with the time-tested and proven win-fest that is intertwining boy/girl vocals. Lazy comparison would be This Is My Fist maybe? But it certainly wouldn't be anywhere near a bad thing if that was how they actually sounded. http://www.myspace.com/bearbonespunkrock
GET SERIOUS (manchester) Mika Miko meets the Descendents, maybe? Shouty vocals, dancetastic riff after riff, flitting between anthemic melodic punk and short, jerky jangly not-disco disco beats. Ex-Postcards From Wakanda. http://www.myspace.com/gettingprettyserious
HOT WASPS (manchester) The continuation of local scrappy pop heroes Lion perhaps, but with drawn influences from a little bit o'thrash, a tough of prog noodlin' and a penchant for all things pop and punk. http://www.myspace.com/hotwasps
at Retro Bar, Sackville St Manchester.
7pm - £6 please (two US bands to pay, sorry!) 14+

| Gigs in Manchester in the next two weeks.. |
[19 Apr 2009|03:57pm] |

Friday 24th April 2009
BRIDGE AND TUNNEL (New York and thereabouts, USofA) Spectacular, powerful, crazily intricate yet totally and utterly balls-out rocking indie punk on No Idea records. Released one of the records of the year in 2008 with their debut full length 'East/West' and pretty much stunned everyone who saw them at Fest with how downright devastatingly mindblowing they were. Easily one of the best bands you will see in 2009, even if you saw every other band in existence ever. Not to be missed. A lot of people say that, but I'm not kidding, ask anyone. Not to be missed. http://www.myspace.com/bridgeandtunnelmusic
OK PILOT (Exeter, UK) One of the best bands in the country, hailing from the darkest corners of the South West, which conveniently doubles as a hot bed for some of the UK's finest and most honed musicians/bands. Equal parts Bluetip/ Dischord-drenched post hardcore, and Gainesville-trademark-gruff-crunch, these boys not only rocked our own country last year, but made a distinctly awesome impression on the USA, playing No Idea's Fest 7 in Florida and releasing a record on Florida label Fail Safe Records. Loveliest dudes playing the rockingest of tunes. http://www.myspace.com/okpilot
CARRAWAY (Manchester, UK) No myspace. No mp3s. No demo.
BREAK THE HABIT (Brighton, UK) Radtastic melodic punk like Shermer, Latterman et al.. songs to sing the heck along to once you know the words.. and trust, one day soon you will and you will. More sweet Southern dudes playing the sweetest of jams. http://www.myspace.com/wearebreakthehabit
at KRO Bar, Oxford Rd, opposite Manchester Uni Students Union/Academy buildings. 8pm - £5 please.
---
 Tuesday 28th April 2009
SHOT BAKER (Chicago, USA) Just bloody ace punk n'roll from the US, combining great punk rock with a proper rock'n'roll swagger. "No 'post' this or that, no pretense, nothing arty, no sappy emo, no indie-rock, no hybrid anything. It's an honest formula: music that rocks + punk aggressiveness." Records on Underground Communique records (J Robbins' Channels, the Methadones, Capital and others..) http://www.myspace.com/shotbaker
THE DAUNTLESS ELITE (Leeds) Yep. http://www.thedauntlesselite.com
COP OUT (Sheffield) Oh yes. http://www.myspace.com/thecwms
DELAYED PROMISE (Manchester) Super-lovely power pop indie rock with innocent and intertwining female/male vocals. Reminds me a lot of late-90s US college rock, meets the good kind of Deep Elm indie-mo. Just really nice. http://www.myspace.com/delayedpromise
at Retro Bar Sackville St Manchester 8pm - £5, please.

Saturday 29th November 2008
ABOVE THEM (Pontefract) Superawesome indie rock power-trio. Sickeningly great songs played sickeningly well. A bit too good, if you ask me. http://www.myspace.com/abovethem
FLAMINGO 50 (Liverpool) Stripped down powerpoppunkrock from Scousers who've been doing this for near enough ten years now. How insane is that? Killer pop songs, played with an endearing swagger. The Real Collective is addicted to gigs, presents;

Friday 14th November 2008
CLOAK/DAGGER (usa) "You guys were really good, my dad says you sound like Minor Threat but I think you sound like Avail." - 12 year old, 2006
Furiously awesome hardcore punk from Richmond, VA. People who used to be in American Nightmare and other killer bands, play energetic dancable punk like a modern day Black Flag or like one of those abundances of Portland bands currently rockin' the 80's sound. Totally amazing, and on none other than Jade Tree records. http://www.myspace.com/wearecloakdagger
DOWN AND OUTS (liverpool) Totally 'mazing street pop punk from Liverpool, on Dead & Gone records amongst others. Songs about birds and tha'. http://www.myspace.com/downandouts
THE COMPUTERS (exeter) Fun time punk'n'roll from Exeter, mixin' punk hardcore with blues and rock and roll. Think maybe Minor Threat mixed with The Germs/Nerve Agents. Good times! http://www.myspace.com/thecomputersfromexeter
COP OUT (sheffield) Our favourite Sheffield boys come back to Manchester to get a bit drunk (and by 'a bit', I mean very.) and play fricken' incredible melodic punk, pretty much exactly like Lifetime. When they can remember their songs, that is. http://www.myspace.com/thecwms
CUTTING CLASS (leeds) Harsh but ultra-melodic punx, you've seen them before, you've bought their exquisitely packaged CD, and now.. you'll see them tear it up again. http://www.myspace.com/wearecuttingclass
THE COST OF LIVING (manchester) Ruining the scene, one gig at a time. Melodic honest poppish punk, like Fifth Hour Hero/Soviettes, kinda. http://www.myspace.com/whatsthecostofliving

| Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier Solo50 amplifier head for sale. |
[05 Oct 2008|07:41pm] |
MESA BOOGIE SINGLE RECTIFIER SOLO50 HEAD FOR SALE!
Desperatation and no other options leave me with no choice but to sell my beloved guitar amp really fricken' cheap.
It is a very cool thing to have, but at this point I need the money equivalent rather than a shiny amplifier. My heart is breaking, but needs must. I will own a Mesa again, this amp just gives you a good solid confidence in your gear. It is awesome.
Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier Solo50 50w head.
# 50 Watts, Class A/B Power / 2x6L6, 5x12AX7 # Bias Select Switch (6L6/EL34) # 2 Channels, 5 Modes (Channel 1=Clean or Pushed, Channel 2=Raw, Vintage High Gain or Modern High Gain) # Independent Gain, Bass, Mid, Treble, Presence and Master Controls per Channel # Output Level Control (over all channels) # Solo Level Control # Parallel FX Loop w/Mix Control # Slave Out
Amp is in superb condition cosmetically and sounds aaaaaaaaaawesome.
Amp comes with 2 button footswitch (switching between channels and the 'solo' feature - which basically whacks upto 20% extra volume on top of whatever your master volume is set..)
Comes with factory dust 'Mesa Engineering' branded dust cover, which fits nicely over the 'Silverstone' waterproof, dustproof patent-covered/foam-padded fitted cover, which will come with the amp.
I'll also throw in a kettle lead.
Considering the condition of the amp, the additional padded cover, the fact that brand new these amps still retail for around £1300/1400.. I think you'll agree it is an absolute fucking STEAL when I only ask for £600. No catches, I just need the money so fast it's untrue.
Comment or e-mail: godspaper@aol.com. Collection/meet preferred (Oldham/Manchester area), but I'll package and ship via DHL for £30 extra.

Help a brother out, I could really use with getting rid of it this week.
Ta, -Daniel.

| DIY/NON-PROFIT PUNK/ROCK GIGS IN MANCHESTER! |
[04 Oct 2008|09:40am] |
A couple of really fun punk/rock shows in Manchester this coming week. The first is an awesome band from Gainesville, Florida called Young Livers, they play really rockin' thrashy melodic punk, a bit like a noisier Drive Like Jehu, lots of grooves and really crazily addictive structures. The second is another American band called Off With Their Heads, they are from Minneapolis, Minnesota and are ex-Dillinger Four. They make fist-in-the-air defiant pop punk.. in a really unnerving way by combining really anthemic singalong pop with utterly downtrodden, life-weary lyrics. Pretty much the epitomé of how everyone feels about life, in pop punk form. Brilliance. The latter gig is in a pretty small RECORD SHOP, and both are guaranteed to be incredible amounts of punk rock fun. If you think you know anyone who might like either, it'd be amazing if you'd repost, or pass the information onto anyone/anywhere that you thought might be interested. All gigs are 100% DIY, and once the minimal costs are covered, all money through the door goes to the touring foreign bands. Please support if you can!

Wednesday 8th October 2008
YOUNG LIVERS (usa) Thrash at a rock tempo! Incredible melodic punk/hardcore, with unusual and highly addictive structures. Ex-Glass & Ashes, with current record 'The New Drop Era' out on No Idea Records. Going to be awesome. http://www.myspace.com/younglivers
BEASTS (leeds) Rockin' hardcore punk from people who used to be in a bazillion great Leeds bands. http://www.myspace.com/squidbeast
FASTPOINT (grimsby) Super ace thrashy punk hardcore from Grimsby, new LP 'good/evil' out now on Fornax/Kamikaze records! http://www.myspace.com/fastpoint
HAMMERS (switzerland/manchester) Intense thrashy d-beat hardcore, a little like HHIG or Tragedy-ish. Pretty evil, pretty loud. http://www.myspace.com/hammers625
at the Retro Bar Sackville St, Manchester Doors 7.30pm, first band 8pm £5 on the door, please.
http://www.myspace.com/therealcollective
---

Saturday 11th October 2008
OFF WITH THEIR HEADS (mn, usa) "Brilliantly addictive, perplexingly pleasing" (quote stolen from Rocksound of all places..) Really downtrodden, life-weary lyrics over the catchiest and most uplifting, anthemic punk rock = brilliance. D4 meets Lawrence Arms. New full length "From The Bottom" out now on No Idea. http://www.myspace.com/offwiththeirheads
CUTTING CLASS (leeds) Harsh yet ultra-melodic punk hardcore from Leeds, people who used to be in The Mingers, Freaks Union, Sindromes, and plenty of others. Fast and fun. http://www.myspace.com/wearecuttingclass
THE COST OF LIVING (manchester) Three boys and a girl try their very hardest to please, whilst not giving an inch on how they think things should be done. Honest, melodic pop punk like some old No Idea bands that conveniently just happened to have female singers. http://www.myspace.com/whatsthecostofliving
instore at Roadkill Records Oldham St, Manchester. Bands start at 2pm SHARP!
Support your local record store, please.
£donations/suggested £3/4 please!
http://www.myspace.com/therealcollective

Gruff punk like Soviettes / Fifth Hour Hero. http://www.myspace.com/whatsthecostofliving
TOWN BIKE (Liverpool) Infectious indie pop, also from Liverpool. Think the Unlovables, Josie & The Pussycats, with a bit of Weezer and/or Bis thrown in.. The best grin-on-your-face band since Bonsai Kittens. http://www.myspace.com/townbike
